Tattoo Aftercare Guide Melbourne

Everything you need to know to keep your new tattoo looking sharp and healthy.

We care as much about your new tattoo as you do. After your tattoo is complete, your artist will cover the work with a protective barrier to protect it. A second-skin patch, fixomull or plastic wrap to get the healing started right.

Your Coverage

Your artist will apply one of these

Option A

You may notice moisture and bluriness building under the surface, this is plasma and micro ink fragments, completely normal. If it causes discomfort or starts peeling before 3 days, remove it under warm water. Wash thoroughly, dry completely, then apply aftercare balm.

Option B

Fixomull

Keep on 4 – 7 days

Water resistant – shower with it on but avoid prolonged water exposure. Same plasma and blurriness affect as second skin is normal. Keep on for a minimum of 4 days, maximum 7. Remove slowly and gently under warm running water. Spots of ink on the patch are norml.

If it causes discomfort or starts peeling before 3 days, remove it under warm water. Wash thoroughly, dry completely, then apply aftercare balm.

Option C

Plastic Wrap

Remove after 1 – 2 hours

Remove the plastic wrap when you get home, 1 – 2 hours after your appointment. Rinse with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented liquid soap. Your artist may recommend re-wrapping before bed to prevent plasma run-off irritating the area overnight. If you do re-wrap, remove and rinse the following day, then apply a thick layer of aftercare balm.

RED HOT TIPS

  • Apply aftercare balm for 10 – 12 days after removing your coverage. A smooth, very thin layer only. DO NOT oversaturate. Let your tattoo breathe. Keep it thin.
  • Avoid submerging your tattoo in water for a full month. Water exposure can cause serious infection.
  • Avoid direct sunlight on the tattoo for a full month. It can overly dry the area during healing and cause premature fading.
  • You know your body best. Unsanitary surfaces, abrasive clothing, and sweat can cause irritation, additional scarring, and even infection.

Common Questions

FAQ

How long do I leave second skin on after a tattoo?

Keep second skin on for a minimum of 2–4 days and a maximum of 7 days. Remove slowly and gently under warm running water.

Can I shower with second skin on my tattoo?

Yes, second skin and Fixomull are water resistant so you can shower normally. Avoid prolonged water exposure and submerging the tattoo completely.

Why does my tattoo look blurry under second skin?

This is normal. Plasma builds up under the second skin and pulls up micro fragments of ink during the healing process. It does not affect the final result.

How long until I can swim after getting a tattoo?

Avoid submerging your tattoo in water for a full month after your appointment. Water exposure can cause serious infection during healing.

How do I care for a tattoo if I'm travelling?

Keep the area clean and dry, avoid direct sunlight and swimming, and apply a thin layer of aftercare balm as directed. Your artist at Roxxi’s Tattoo will provide travel-specific aftercare instructions suited to your itinerary.

What if my second skin starts peeling off early?

Remove it gently under warm running water, wash the area thoroughly, allow it to dry completely, then apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare balm.
